* *Here is the abstract of this speech: Why have the
State-owned enterprises achieved the unprecedentedly high profitability
relative to the private firms in China recently while they performed badly
in the past? Why is the labor income share in GDP so low and still
declining over time? Why is the saving rate so high in China? Why does
China have such a large current account surplus? In this lecture, these
internal and external economic imbalances will be explained within a
unified analytical framework of China’s state capitalism. The
sustainability of China’s growth model and its global implications will
also be discussed.
Part of the speech will be related to a paper of Prof Wang
Yong. You are highly recommended to read this paper before the talk. Please
