Now, you are cordially invited to the forthcoming lecture given by professor Wang Yong from Department of Economics at HKUST. Below please find the details about this event. *Topic: China's State Capitalism: A Root Cause of Internal and External Economic Imbalances* * Speaker: Prof. Wang Yong, Assistant Professor from the Department of Economics at HKUST Date: February 29th, 2012 Time: 19:15—20:45 (Registration begins at 19:00) Venue: Room 2407 (Lift 17-18) * * * * *Here is the abstract of this speech: Why have the State-owned enterprises achieved the unprecedentedly high profitability relative to the private firms in China recently while they performed badly in the past? Why is the labor income share in GDP so low and still declining over time? Why is the saving rate so high in China? Why does China have such a large current account surplus? In this lecture, these internal and external economic imbalances will be explained within a unified analytical framework of China’s state capitalism. The sustainability of China’s growth model and its global implications will also be discussed. Part of the speech will be related to a paper of Prof Wang Yong. You are highly recommended to read this paper before the talk.
