What you'll learn
During part 1 of this series, we'll work towards a better understanding of the basic anatomy of the pelvic floor and challenges that the pelvic organs may face
As part 1 continues, we learn how posture can impact our overall pelvic floor muscles and techniques to improve our posture to support our pelvic floor health
Through visual aids, we will better understand the mechanism of breathing and how to retrain ourselves to breath in a way to support pelvic floor health
Finally, we will focus on techniques to help strengthen our pelvic floor through breath/awareness. Methods can translate to day to day life or our yoga practice
Requirements
The is no need for prior experience in yoga or even an interest in yoga to participate. All levels of yoga experience are welcome. Techniques learned will also benefit day to day life even if you choose not to participate in yoga.
Recommended props for this course if you want to practice along with examples are pillows, blankets/towels, bolster/meditation cushion, blocks and a strap. These are NOT required and can be substituted with household items.
Description
This educational course is designed to help you build a strong foundational understanding of your pelvic floor. What it is, how it works, as well as why it matters in your daily life and your yoga practice.In this hour and 45 minute educational session, we'll explore how common postural habits, both while sitting and standing, can affect your pelvic floor health. You'll learn how small shifts in alignment, breath and awareness can make a significant difference, not only in managing current symptoms, but in reducing the risk of pelvic floor dysfunction down the road.We'll also introduce practical, accessible techniques to support and reverse some common pelvic floor challenges.This course is suitable for all bodies and backgrounds. No prior yoga experience is required, and there is no required movement practice in this part. If you'd like to follow along with some posture and breath examples, you may find props like pillows, blankets, yoga blocks, or a strap helpful. Props are entirely optional and can be substituted with other similarly shaped household items. (Bolsters/meditation cushions can be substituted with pillows or folded blankets, blocks replaced by rolled up towels and a belt or tie can be used in place of a yoga strap)
Who this course is for
You do not have to wait until you experience bladder leakage when sneezing, jumping or laughing to start strengthening your pelvic floor and you certainly don't have to be ashamed if you are already there! This course is intended to help you better understand your pelvic floor with an opportunity to better understand how to work towards strong, healthy pelvic floor muscles.
Techniques learned will benefit all levels of yoga practice and can be taken with you into your future classes to make any yoga class a pelvic floor class. For those who prefer not to practice yoga moving forward, techniques learned can also be utilized in your day to day life through postural changes, better awareness and breathing techniques.
